Hip Pain Treatment in Finchley
Hip pain in Finchley
At Compass Health Clinic in Finchley, hip pain is a very common issue we come across. For many, it can be very debilitating, as it can impact how we walk, sit, and even how we sleep, particularly if we sleep on our side or on our front.
We work with you to work out why your hip pain is occurring, and then come up with a tailored plan that works for you.

Our 3 simples steps to eliminating your Hip pain.

Step 1: Diagnosis
Diagnosis is an essential part of recovery from any injury. By knowing what is happening, we not only know what steps to take, but it can also bring relief once we know it is something that will go away and that moving around will not cause any further damage.
Step 2: Treatment
Whether seeing an osteopath or physiotherapist, our treatments are completely tailored to the patient in the room. We know that everyone has their own preferences, and therefore we put the patient at the centre of the treatment approach, and check in to make sure you feel comfortable every step of the way. One of the most effective treatment approaches we use is shockwave therapy, particularly for those patients who have had hip pain for more than 3 months.
Step 3: Education, rehab and advice
Education, rehab and advice is one of our favourite steps, because these are the steps that help ensure that the pain you’re suffering from is unlikely to come back in the future.
By understanding your story and your day-to-day habits, we are able to create a programme that not only will you keep to, but hopefully enjoy enough that you will take it with your going forward, helping reduce the chances of re-injury in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hip Pain:
Q: What are the common causes of hip pain?
A: Common causes of hip pain include greater trochanteric pain syndrome (pain on the outside of the hip), osteoarthritis, labral tears, muscle strains, referred pain from the lower back, and bursitis. Hip pain can affect how you walk, sit, sleep and exercise, which is why getting an accurate diagnosis is the first step. At Compass Health Clinic, we examine your hip thoroughly to identify exactly what is causing your pain and create a personalised treatment plan. |
Q: Can an osteopath or physiotherapists help with hip pain?
A: Yes. Osteopaths and physiotherapists are well trained in assessing and treating hip conditions. Treatment may include hands-on techniques to improve mobility and reduce pain, specific strengthening exercises for the muscles around the hip, and advice on modifying activities that aggravate your symptoms. For tendon-related hip problems, we may also use shockwave therapy. We see hip pain very regularly at our North Finchley clinic and can usually begin helping from the first appointment. |
Q: Why is my hip pain worse at night?
A: Dry needling is effective for muscle pain and tension, headaches and migraines, neck pain, low back pain, sports injuries, shoulder pain and muscle tightness. It works particularly well for trigger points — those tight, tender knots in muscles that can refer pain to other areas. We often use it alongside hands-on treatment and exercise prescription for the best results. |
Q: How many dry needling sessions will I need?
A: Hip pain at night is very common, particularly if you sleep on your side. Lying on the affected hip compresses the structures on the outside (especially the bursa and tendons), while lying on the opposite side allows the affected hip to drop and stretch those same structures. Both positions can aggravate the pain. Simple changes like placing a pillow between your knees or temporarily sleeping on your back can make a significant difference while we treat the underlying problem. However, if your symptoms are accompanied by night sweats, diffuse pain not alleviated by a change in position, and/or loss of weight then we recommend you also speak to your GP to organise a scan. |
